ABOUT

I am an artist currently living and working in West Sussex, UK.

In my work I explore and investigate the relationship between art and science, in particular physics, through a systematic yet intuitive approach. To do this I effectively translate and re-contextualise data and research into a fine art context through creative exploration. Born of the need to realise and respond to the artistic magnificence I see in science, my investigations not only highlight inherent links between the two fields, but reveal an intimate relationship that manifests itself through remarkable and aesthetic artistic potential… I also explore various other unrelated subjects in my work, yet these often serve as a break from my main area of interest being nonetheless enjoyable and creative.

I work across a range of mediums in the pursuit of creativity including painting, photography, light and installation, and work in a pure, hard-edge abstract style which recalls such artists as Piet Mondrian, Josef Albers and Kenneth Noland. Whilst on a theoretical note my work relates to Neo-Plasticism and the revelation of a fundamental, underlying aesthetic that permeates the Universe, my approach to art draws from many sources and is not limited to, or defined by any particular movement or philosophy. Nevertheless I do believe that abstraction, when used effectively, frees the mind from most pre-conceived visual syntaxes, opening the path to a profound metaphysical elucidation that is nonetheless rooted firmly in physical laws. In other words, to understand the unknown, I use a form of language that is at once recognisable yet ambiguous…

The subjects I take on in my work often stem from nothing more than a visceral fascination with different areas of scientific study. When driven by the desire to engage more with a given subject, I use my projects as a means to learn and gain knowledge making the creative and artistic process reciprocal to the research.

My most recent project tackled Quantum Theory, an area that is fertile ground for creative and artistic translation. Having brought the project to completion in a light-based installation as part of my degree show exhibition, it is by no means over and a project I intend to pursue further in the future. In the meantime however I am focusing on other unrelated projects for which I have many ideas…
